Changes for AY 2026-27

Two changes are highlighted for the current filing cycle:

  • ITR-1 now allows income from up to two house properties. Earlier, a taxpayer with more than one house property had to move to ITR-2 or ITR-3.
  • The Income Tax Act 2025 took effect on 1 April 2026. However, the Income Tax Act 1961 continues to apply to AY 2026-27 because the relevant income was earned up to 31 March 2026.
