Management chatter
The remarks below are reproduced exactly as carried in the source.
“In our business, it is about continuity, and semiconductor is a roadmap-based journey. It is really very encouraging to see that after the Semiconductor 1.0 scheme, the government has come up with Semiconductor 2.0...so that continuity, that roadmap is very important. We believe that in this business, as we generate the cash flow, we will always be investing and continue on this,”Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD, Tata Electronics
“Over the last four to six quarters, we have maintained that the macroeconomic environment would remain uncertain. Themes across geopolitics, interest rates, and inflation have not changed significantly over the past 12 to 18 months. While the macro hasn’t improved, it hasn’t meaningfully deteriorated either. Our performance thesis is driven primarily by micro-level execution, focusing on deal flow, account-level activity, and pipeline closures across specific verticals and clients.”Nitin Rakesh, CEO, Mphasis
“In India, banks are still the primary source of capital for a lot of companies other than those rated AAA, AA-plus. We must move more to the capital market.”Paritosh Kashyap, Whole-time Director, Kotak Mahindra Bank
Weekend recap
Saturday, 19 September and Sunday, 20 September 2026
Tata Sons: Listing preparation and board dispute
- Listing preparation: Tata Sons began preparing for a public listing soon after the RBI directed it to do so on 11 September. February 2027 has emerged as an approximate internal target for a market debut. Investment bankers and external advisers have not yet been appointed, and February is a working target rather than a formal IPO timetable.
- Noel Tata’s letter: In a letter to company secretary Suprakash Mukhopadhyay, Noel Tata called the reappointment resolution “null and void ab initio” and sought a public correction. He said the vote was subject to three conditions: a legal view on whether Article 121 or 118 applies, shareholder confirmation at the AGM, and no public disclosure until both conditions were met.
- Mistry backs the RBI: Shapoorji Pallonji Group chairman Shapoor Mistry backed the RBI decision requiring Tata Sons to comply with its listing obligations. “This landmark decision should not be viewed as a victory of one stakeholder over another,” he said.
- SP Group debt: The group is speaking with lenders about a three-to-six-month extension on around Rs 3,500 crore due on 30 September on a zero-coupon bond issued by Porteast Investment. Its Mercury Finance dollar bond, issued at a 14.5% yield in July, was quoted at around 12.5%.
- Value per share: Investment bankers estimate Tata Sons at Rs 9-12.5 lakh crore. On that basis, each of the company’s 404,146 shares would be worth roughly Rs 2.23-3.09 crore. Noel Tata’s 4,060 shares would be worth Rs 9,041-12,557 crore and Jimmy Naval Tata’s 3,262 shares Rs 7,264-10,089 crore, all on paper.
- Market value: The combined market capitalisation of Tata Group companies stood at Rs 25.28 lakh crore on 18 September, compared with Rs 25.76 lakh crore on 15 September, the first trading day after the RBI announcement.
